THE CHALLENGE AND THE NEW DESIGN
SPM's challenge was to find a solution that would withstand the new demands of alpine ski racing and
extend the life of gate shafts. Testing by SPM revealed that gate shafts are exposed to impact forces in excess
of 129 mph (209km/h) resulting in incredible stress and increased breakage at the top of the shaft. Gold Fusion™,
SPM's new and innovative solution, features several key improvements that extend the life of SPM shafts and
gates: a reinforced shaft offering higher impact resistance at the point of maximum stress where the gate strikes snow, ice, a body or ski; modification to the composition of the polycarbonate shaft to strengthen and reinforce the entire shaft; and redesigned hinge encasements to better absorb the extreme forces applied to the hinge section. This patent pending technology has produced a gate of superior overall quality while raising the standard of slalom gate technology to a new level.
